PCHS students prepare for Redman Cup football game

By Eric Thompson | Raider Review staff

With Plant City High School’s rivalry game against Durant approaching, Plant City students couldn’t have a normal pep rally.

Before Wednesday, Oct. 14, pep rallies had to be split into two separate events to seat all of the students. With over 600 freshmen this year, the entire student body’s population has taken a climb of almost 400 people.

The splitting of pep rallies was not a fan favorite.

“I didn’t like it because I had a hard time enjoying myself,” Jayden Campbell, a freshman, said. “In the commotion, I could only find one friend at once, if at all.”

But the pep rally held Oct. 14 was not split, so that students could get pumped to win the Redman Cup, a trophy given to the victor of the PCHS-DHS game each year. This year’s game is Friday, Oct. 16.

After taking the PSATs, students flocked to the gymnasium to cheer on the football players and cheerleaders.

“I enjoyed the pep rally because they showed our rivalry,” freshman Alissia Whitfield said.

The pep rally featured a cheer off between Plant City High School’s cheerleaders and a fake Durant cheer leading squad. Principal Susan Sullivan stole the show when she pretended to steal the James L. Redman Cup from her sister, Pamela Bowden, the principal of Durant High School.

It’s a special sibling rivalry: James Redman, for whom the trophy is named after, is the late father of Sullivan and Bowden.

Both principals are ready to cheer for their teams. Are you?
