Plant City High School’s jazz band is ready to get its swing on.
The school’s third annual Jazz Night concert is set to hit the PCHS auditorium at 7 p.m. May 1 and will feature charts inspired by greats like John Coltrane, Count Basie, Sonny Rollins and more. The show will also feature guest saxophonist Jeff Rupert, leader of the Jazz Professors and director of jazz studies at the University of Central Florida.
The band recently visited New York City for a master class at Juilliard, where the students got to learn from and jam with Saturday Night Live baritone saxophonist Ron Blake. Band director Joshua Blair said the experience inspired the students to refine their styles and work with a world-class musician.
“It was an awesome opportunity for the students,” Blair said.
The band is accepting $5 donations at the door.
