As with the last two seasons, the Strawberry Crest girls basketball team now sits alone on the district throne.
On Thursday, Jan 28, the Lady Chargers routed Tampa Bay Tech at home, 61-22, in a championship game that was never really close. A deafeningly loud gym, coupled with Crest's smothering defense, took the Lady Titans out of the game early. Tech had trouble even getting beyond mid-court, as the Lady Chargers' defenders often seemed to know what their opponents were going to do before they even did.
Crest took a 33-14 lead heading into halftime, and used nearly all of its second (and third) chances to its advantage. Upon gaining control of the glass, Crest used its size and post prowess to make up for mid-to-long range shooting that wasn't always falling.
The end result? Just four second-half field goals for Tech, and only one in the fourth quarter.
