Explore Your City: Hillsboro State Bank

The idea for Hillsboro State Bank started with Moreau E. Moody. Moody wasn’t a banker — he was a drugstore owner. In 1891, Moody came to Plant City and opened his business. Merchants began to deposit money in his large steel safe for security. By the summer 1902, Moody and several others, including its first president, Colonel James L. Young, organized Hillsboro State Bank. But the bank didn’t move to its current location on Collins Street until 1914.
