Although the night sky was flashing wildly around halftime, the only lightning that struck in Dover was the Plant City Raiders offense.
In a performance highlighted by running back Treshaun Ward's four touchdowns in just over two quarters of action, Plant City picked up a 50-5 win at Strawberry Crest that brought about a running clock just after the start of the second half.
The Raiders struck first, with quarterback Corey King capping off the team's opening drive with a 52-yard touchdown pass to his brother, Xavier King. After Crest's next drive was unsuccessful, Ward started his scoring spree with a five-yard run at the 2:48 mark of the first quarter.
Ward opened the second quarter at the 11:53 mark with a 19-yard rushing touchdown and, when the Raiders got the ball back shortly afterward, he scored on a 15-yard run exactly two minutes later.
Crest got on the scoreboard at the 4:06 mark with a 47-yard field goal, shortly after nailing a 42-yarder but opting instead to take an automatic first down on a Plant City roughing the kicker penalty.
Corey King led the Raiders to the goal line once again and, at the 1:03 mark, scored on a short quarterback sneak to set the score at 36-3.
Thirty minutes later, following a lightning delay that saw both bands, both cheer squads and most fans leave the school, Ward returned the opening kickoff for his final touchdown of the evening, which also started the running clock.
Running back Ge'Sean Parker scored the Raiders' final touchdown with five seconds left in the third quarter, breaking off a long touchdown run that started near midfield. Crest couldn't answer until there was 2:44 left in the game, when the Chargers blocked a Plant City punt in the end zone for a safety.
In other area action, Durant overcame a slow start and a 90-minute weather delay to rout East Bay, 38-3.
