Lincoln Elementary Magnet School students spend every February making sure they get an important message across.
“I am somebody.”
The school’s Black History Month celebration, called “Know Your History,” has students donning costumes to portray influential black and Hispanic Americans. They tell the audience seated in the school’s cafeteria something about themselves, all while in character. Astronauts, athletes, activists, actors and more took to the stage to talk about their accomplishments. Between waves of speeches, the kids performed songs and the adults even got in on the action by singing “Lift Every Voice” near the end of the program.
