Regional bands, local dignitaries and even a group of cowboys on horseback were a part of Plant City’s annual Black Heritage Parade Saturday.
The parade traveled down Martin Luther King Blvd., ending at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center, where a carnival was held, featuring food and non-food venders, as well as children’s activities. The parade was part of a weekend of events, making up the 10th annual Black Heritage Education and Cultural Festival.
The event coincides with Black History Month and provides an opportunity for the Plant City community to honor the rich cultural history of African-Americans both nationally and locally.
A gospel concert featuring the Durant High School choir and other regional choirs will take place Sunday, Feb. 10 from 3 to 8 p.m. and the carnival will continue from noon to 8 p.m. A Heritage Banquet was held at the Hillsborough Community College Plant City Campus in the Trinkle Center on Feb. 8, featuring keynote speaker Machelle Maner, vice president of community development at Wells Fargo.
