Downtown storeowners organized a fundraiser Oct. 11, to benefit the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout the day, visitors wrote messages, or the names of loved ones who had suffered from the disease, on pink balloons. At 6 p.m., the storeowners released the balloons into the sky.
Russell Silverman, executive director of the foundation, came to Plant City for the fundraiser.
“I welcome any donation that is thousands of dollars, but small ones from big efforts are more meaningful,” Silverman said. “I’d rather have dozens of people like these that do it from their own hearts.”
