A Plant City competitor took grand-champion honors at 2014 CF Industries Youth Swine Show Feb. 28, at the Grimes Family Agricultural Center, at the Florida Strawberry Festival.
Cole Hanson, a student at Turkey Creek Middle School, exhibited the grand champion swine. Zachary Bozeman, also a student at Turkey Creek Middle School, exhibited the reserve grand champion swine.
Seventy-six exhibitors showed swine in the annual competition. In the show, each pig is placed in one of nine classes based on the animal’s weight. The winner of each class then competes for the title of grand champion.
After the youth swine show, the showmanship competition began where, instead of the animal being judged, the showmen are judged on how well they can present their animals to the judge.
In the senior division, Rachel Carter placed first, Colton Stubbs placed second, and Michael Nading placed third. In the intermediate division, Tanner Ashley placed first, Reagan Messick placed second, and Carlos Curnow II placed third. In the junior division, Emma Futch placed first, Austin Holcomb placed second, and Marissa Zolna placed third.
