Denim and diamonds don’t seem like they go together. But for 16 years the South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation has hosted the Diamonds & Denim Gala fundraiser which has always been a popular event.
The foundation’s largest fundraiser drew crowds in the hundreds last night at the Strawberry Festival Expo Hall, 2301 W. Oak Ave.
Attendees of the three hour event socialized, listened to the Faces South Band, enjoyed dinner from six food and beverage stations and perused the extravagant items for auction including one of a kind paintings from the Art Lounge Gallery, sports tickets and jewelry from J & G Jewelers.
The foundation supports a number of programs at South Florida Baptist Hospital, including Wellness on Wheels, the Community Health program and educational outreach programs such as the popular Ladies Night Out. It also supports health programs within the Plant City community.
Since 1997, the gala, the foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, has raised more than $800,000 for the foundation, said event chair Kim McElveen. This year, organizers hope to raise $90,000.
