PHOTO GALLERY: Fort Alafia historical marker reinstallation

The Fort Alafia historical marker was reinstalled on Saturday, May 21 as part of an Eagle Scout project by Ronan Willey, of Boy Scout Troop 11.

The marker was placed in the Pinecrest Little League parking lot in Alderman's Ford Park.

The marker was stolen from it's original spot over two decades ago and was found in Pennsylvania. The East Hillsborough Historical Society retrieved the marker in 1997 from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's stolen property department, at the department's request,  Shelby Bender, of the society, said.

The color guard of Troop 11 started off the re-installation with the Pledge of Allegiance. Ronan Willey, Bender and Park Manager Bryan Hughes said a few words about the historical marker.

The project was also supported by Troop Master Mike Poirson, East Hillsborough Historical Society and the Hillsborough County Historical Advisory Council.
