It was an early morning for runners and families participating in the Good Cookie 5K.
The race kicked off at 7:30 a.m., taking runners around the historic district of Plant City. Two bounce houses kept kids occupied. The band, Dock Seven, played country favorites. A photo staging area was set up and a bake sale and lemonade stand offered refreshments.
The event was organized by Emily Pierce whose daughter, Morgan, has cancer. Pierce had help from other local mothers in her situation. Pierce organized Plant City’s first Good Cookie 5K last year and raised more than $3,000 for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, an organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research. Proceeds will go to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer again this year.
