Plant City High School hosted its second annual Preseason Classic baseball tournament over the weekend, but it was another Plant City-area team that stole the show.
Strawberry Crest was the only team to win both of its games, although the Chargers and Raiders did not meet up. Visiting teams Wiregrass Ranch and Trinity Christian Academy each picked up a win over the Raiders and lost to Crest by one run.
On Friday night, Florida Strawberry Festival director emeritus Al Berry threw out the first pitch before the Raiders’ game against Trinity Christian, and also presented head coach Mike Fryrear with a hat that Berry had received from former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott.
