Plant City Fire Rescue welcomed three to its ranks during the department’s first badging ceremony March 14, at the Sadye Gibbs Auditorium, at City Hall.
Firefighter/medic Jake Elliott, firefighter/EMT Suraj Somaiah and firefighter/medic Matthew Powell took the oath from interim fire chief David Burnett to become the newest additions to the department.
“This is a proud department and a proud community that it serves,” said Plant City Mayor Mike Sparkman at the ceremony. “I know these men will do a great job serving our community.”
Fire Chaplain Daniel Middlebrooks led the invocation and pledge and said a prayer for the new additions after they received their badges.
“You wear these badges not to be served, but to serve,” Middlebrooks told the new members. “It is a proud legacy.”
