The Plant City volleyball team fell short of claiming the Class 7A District 8 championship Thursday night, falling to No. 1 seed Riverview 3-1.
The Lady Raiders held tough and took the first set, tying the game 10 different times, including at 25-25, before reeling of two straight points for the win. After the second set was dominated by the Lady Sharks after a 10-point unanswered run for a 25-10 win, Plant City battled with the top seed in the third game, before falling 26-24.
The fourth set was another back-and-forth battle, with Riverview taking the game and the match 26-24.
Kelly Drake had 40 assists for Plant City, while Danielle Rodriguez led the team in digs with 18. Alex Arnold had 15 kills, while Noelle Dietrich had 12 and Kasi Maguire tallied 10.
“We played very tough tonight, but were outmatched on the block,” said Plant City head coach Jessica Thornton.
The Lady Raiders will be headed to regionals next week, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 30.
