Over 50 Toastmaster club members gathered at the home of Doug Hurlburt on Saturday evening for a dinner and meeting in honor of Dr. Hal Brewer, a charter member.
Brewer, 86, stopped attending club meetings last year because of cancer. Brewer’s wife, Lynn, knew the retired general practitioner was going to be recognized at the meeting, but he had no idea that the meeting was a tribute to him.
“I’ve really missed Toastmasters,” Brewer said during a speech.
Among those in attendance was Diana Thompson, who helped put the event together.
“I am excited that we were able to recognize Dr. Brewer for all his contributions over the years and all the light and pleasure he’s brought to our community,” Thompson said. “He has brightened everyone he touches.
