Wawa, a popular, Pennsylvania-based convenience store franchise, broke ground in Plant City the morning of Thursday, Dec. 4.
Store No. 681 was introduced to the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World around 10:30 a.m., following a hoagie-building competition between the Plant City Police Department and Plant City Fire Rescue. Vice Mayor Bill Dodson, who was joined by State Representative Dan Raulerson, did the honors of cutting the ribbon.
At the opening, Wawa announced that a developer would contribute $250,000 to help the city improve the flow of traffic at the intersection of I-4 and Thonotosassa Rd. Plant City Fire Rescue, which won the competition, received $1,000 to donate to United Food Bank of Plant City, and PCPD got $1,000 to contribute to the 2015 Police Unity Tour.
