Four members of the Plant City High School football team made their college plans official on National Signing Day Wednesday, as they signed national letters of intent to play in college.
Defensive lineman Devyn Salmon made his longtime commitment to Michigan State official, while teammates Quentin Robinson, Tranard Styles and Dontavius “Tae” Johnson all signed with Ridgewater College in Wilmar, Minn.
All four Raiders overcame adversities in their journey to play in college. Johnson overcame academic troubles to be able to play his senior season with Plant City, while Robinson earned a chance to play at the next level after playing only one year of high school football.
Styles overcame many injuries throughout his career and said he found a home in Plant City with his parents overseas in the Bahamas.
According to Plant City head coach Wayne Ward, two more Raiders are expected to sign with colleges soon, bringing the total to six out of 10 seniors.
Other area football standouts signing Wednesday include Durant linebacker Chris Smith (Florida A&M) and Strawberry Crest receiver Karel Hamilton (Samford). Durant’s Jamarlon Hamilton is also expected to sign with Florida A&M, soon.
