Plant City will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bike Fest with live music, door prizes and even a stunt rider Oct. 6.
Lakeland-based Adam Holbrook will navigate cable spools, suspended platforms, narrow ramps and a massive 10-foot wall during his FERE Thrill Show.
“In essence its like rock climbing on a motorcycle,” Holbrook said. “It requires very skilled riding and the rider has to have good balance.”
While maneuvering the obstacles, Holbrook will be performing 180-degree flip turns, jumping over the announcer and balancing on one wheel in a 15- to 20-minute show. The audience will get a chance to meet him following the show.
“It’s great to be back in Plant City and be able to do a local show,” Holbrook said.
In addition to Holbrook’s performance, Saturday’s Bike Fest will feature the Soul ‘N’ Tension Band and more than $1,000 in door prizes contributed by MC Radical Randy Akers and Bikers Choice.
As always, vendors will offer motorcycle gear, homemade ice cream and Southern food.
“The crowd should be great,” Plant City Chamber of Commerce President Marion Smith said. “Come on out. This is a family event. All age groups are represented — 2-week-old babies to 95-year-olds.”
Bike Fest started in 2001, after a group of motorcycle enthusiasts, including Jim Hall and Dan Snyder, approached the chamber about hosting a motorcycle event. The chamber formed a committee to organize it, and the first show took place October 2002.
“It was a huge success,” Smith said. “Motorcycles and people were everywhere. Through the years, there were many times that we would have to close down Collins Street and allow motorcycles to park there, (because) we ran out of room.”
During the one-year anniversary show in 2003, police estimated 23,000 people and 14,000 motorcycles were present.
