Plant City Commons Community Garden to host spring events

The return of warm weather is a reminder that spring is right around the corner.

On Thursday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 13, Plant City Commons Community Garden will be hosting two events to kick off the season.

The Feb. 11 event, dubbed "Gotta Love the Garden" is a dedication event that will unveil the garden in the Teaching Garden on the Plant City campus of Hillsborough Community College, which was built by the University of Florida. Guests will be able to stroll through the garden and enjoy live music, and hear from speakers including Dr. Martyn Clay, Dr. Sydney Park Brown, PCCCG President Karen Elizabeth, Florida Master Bee Keeper Nancy Ham and Dr. Rebecca Blano.

Two days later, Plant City residents can attend the organization's spring seeding workshop. The event is part of a partnership with Lincoln Elementary, and is free to parents, students and staff at Lincoln. Attendees will learn how to successfully start their own garden through seeding trays of flowers and vegetable seeds, and watching garden bed preparations. Gardeners of all ages and experience levels are welcome to attend. The registration deadline for the event, sponsored by the Women's Club of Plant City and the Plant City Area Democrats, is Wednesday, Feb. 10.
