On November 24, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Plant City Police Department (PCPD) officers arrested James Dansby, a 37-year-old six-time convicted felon from Plant City, after responding to a report of shots fired in the area of South Frontage Road and North Gordon Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers quickly located three individuals matching the description provided by the communications center. Following a thorough investigation, officers determined that Dansby was in possession of a loaded, illegally possessed, .22 caliber handgun. Further investigation revealed that Dansby discharged several rounds from the firearm.
The PCPD charged Dansby with Felon in Possession of a Firearm (second-degree felony) and Discharging a Firearm in Public or on Residential Property (first-degree misdemeanor). Dansby was remanded to the Hillsborough County Jail.
The arrest highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face when removing unlawfully possessed firearms from the streets.
