A tip led Pinellas County sheriff's deputies to arrest a 48-year-old Plant City man Wednesday, Aug. 24, on charges that he drove drunk while carrying knives, illegal drugs and his infant daughter.
Douglas W. Fountain was arrested on charges of driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, child abuse/child endangerment, habitual driving with a license suspended or revoked, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a concealed weapon.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said it received a tip that a man was driving a red Dodge pickup and using drugs with an infant in the vehicle. Deputies pulled Fountain over at about 6:53 p.m. at the Mobil gas station at 4899 Ulmerton Road.
Deputies said they found Fountain's 5-month-old daughter in a car seat in the passenger seat, an assortment of knives such as a 10-inch Bowie knife, 8.5 grams of meth next to a baby's bottle and a clear glass pipe under the driver's seat.
Fountain was booked into the Pinellas County jail. Child protective investigators took custody of the baby, who was not identified.
