The Plant City Photo Archives and History Center's staff helped bring some more Hillsborough County history to light.
The center announced Monday evening that it contributed information, photographs and other documents to the newly-opened Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office History Center, located at the corner of 19th Street and Ninth Avenue in Ybor City. The staff was also invited to the new history center's official ribbon-cutting ceremony, held Thursday, May 5 on-site.
One of the Plant City archives' most notable contributions involved Plant City-based Deputy Ben Wilder, who died in a shootout in 1962. The HCSO center has honored Wilder with a display, which includes photos and information from the Plant City archives.
Retired officers J. Myrle Henry contributed information about the Plant City chapter of the Junior Deputies program, and also spoke about the HCSO Junior Deputies' involvement with the Florida Strawberry Festival in the 1950s, when there was no other security available.
