Plant City Police detectives arrested Talae Akei Thomas late this afternoon and charged her with aggravated child abuse and first degree murder in connection with the death of her five-week old son.
Last night, Plant City police responded to a suspicious person call and found Thomas laying in the medium near the intersection of West Grant Street and South Alexander Street. Thomas told officers she needed to go to the hospital for medical treatment because she had lost her baby. She was taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital for treatment.
Police went to Thomas’s home to contact family members and found the front door of her house open. Officers entered the house after receiving no response and discovered Thomas’s son, who had passed away.
Police suspect the child died because of criminal activity based on evidence at the scene and statements made by Thomas.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy this morning. The results are still pending.
Thomas has been transported to Orient Road Jail.
The investigation is still ongoing and details of the case can change as they are made available.
