The investigation was initiated after a patient in Sun City Center reported jewelry missing.
A Plant City woman turned herself in Thursday, Dec. 17, after an investigation was done involving the theft of jewelry from a hospice patient in Sun City Center and other victims in Plant City, Tampa and Gibsonton.
Theresa Belekevich, 53, was booked into Orient Road Jail for four counts of grand theft, seven counts of dealing in stolen property and seven counts of false information to a second-hand dealer. Belekevich admitted to the offenses, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation begin, in 2015, as a case concerning a hospice patient who had items stolen from a residence in Sun City Center. The items stolen were mainly jewelry, including rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
The investigation led to detectives in the District IV Investigative Section identifying Belekevich as a suspect. Belekevich was a hospice employee at the time of the thefts.
The investigation also revealed additional victims in Plant City, Tampa and Gibsonton dating back to October 2014.
Belekevich is no longer an employee of the hospice. The investigation totaled over one year to investigate thoroughly, according to HCSO.
