Plant City YMCA to host “Safety Around Water” program

Childhood drowning is a real problem, and the Tampa area YMCAs are aiming to help stop it.

Children aged 3-12 will be eligible to participate in the upcoming "Safety Around Water" program, which Plant City-area people can attend March 14-17. The program, which is free for members and non-members, is now accepting pre-registrations.

"Safety Around Water is a community outreach program that focuses on teaching children how to be safe in and around the water, particularly for youth from underserved communities who might not otherwise have access to swim lessons,” Tampa YMCA Aquatics Executive Amanda Walker says. “We know that 71% of the world is water and children are 100-percent curious. The Tampa YMCA believes a child’s safety in and around water should never be left to chance. We’re committed to providing this free program annually in the spring to help keep kids safe at the beach, pool, lake and while boating."

Participants must provide their own swim suit and towel. For more information, visit TampaYMCA.org/locations/plant-city/.
