Police ID suspect in father, son shooting

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives released this afternoon the name of one of the suspects they believe shot a Plant City father and son Oct. 21, during a series of crimes.

Sheriff’s Office detectives have issued an arrest warrant searching for Stefan Jackson, 28, of Plant City, on charges of home invasion, kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. A second suspect, described as a black male, 18 to 22 years old, 5-foot-8, 140 pounds, clean-shaven with black hair and brown eyes, has not been identified.

According  to Sheriff’s Office reports, at about 9 p.m. Oct. 21, Jackson and the second suspect knocked on the door at 1108 Colson Road, Plant City. The house was occupied by Vincent Shakes and his girlfriend, Nishell Hargrove.

The suspects presented handguns and forced their way into the home. Jackson went into the residence with duct tape and restrained Hargrove. Hargrove was able to free herself and ran outside.

Jackson and the second suspect fired their handguns multiple times near Shakes to scare him and force him inside of the suspects’ vehicle. The unknown suspect drove the vehicle as Jackson sat in the back with Shakes; Jackson repetitively struck him with a handgun.

They drove to 5738 Horton Road, Vincent Shakes’ parents’ residence).  Once at the Horton Road residence, Vincent Shakes ran from the vehicle and  through the garage, where his father, Leaford Shakes, assisted him and trying to hold the garage door shut, while Jackson and the second suspect attempted to force their way into the door. Jackson penetrated the crack of the door with the handgun and shot Leaford Shakes in the upper body; Vincent Shakes was struck in the foot.

The suspects entered the residence and demanded money. After receiving money from the victims, the suspects fled the scene.

The event was not random.
