Possession of Firearm on School Property

The Plant City Police Department in collaboration with the Hillsborough County
Public Schools (HCPS) Security Services and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s
Office (HCSO), acted swiftly today, Tuesday, September 17, after receiving information that a student at Simmons Career Center, 1202 W. Grant St, may have been in possession of a firearm on campus.

An HCPS officer contacted the student, who admitted to having a firearm in his
vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded, 9mm handgun, a
magazine and 26 rounds of ammunition. The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and minor in possession of a firearm.

This incident underscores the importance of the strong partnerships between
the Plant City Police Department, the HCSO and the HCPS in ensuring the safety
of our students, faculty and staff. Protecting the well-being of everyone on
campus remains our highest priority.

        One Count of Possession of a Firearm on School Property
        One count of Minor in Possession of Firearm
