Raiders Basketball Dominates The Longhorns

The Raiders basketball team entered Tuesday’s game against the Lennard Longhorns with a 10-5 record. The Raiders won the tip-off but missed their first shot. After the Longhorns missed their first, Laurice Hamilton got the Raiders on the board with a nice post-move. The Raiders forced a turnover, and then Hamilton scored his second basket in a row after a Raiders inbound pass. The Longhorns were fouled and went to the free throw line, going 0-2. Hamilton did it again for the Raiders as another post-move put them on a 6-0 run. It was then an 8-0 run as Logan Teeden found Akeim Young wide open on the fast break for a layup. After both teams turned it over, Teeden blocked the ball and then full-court heaved it to Gavin Tinsley for the fast break dunk. Tinsley then got another basket in the paint and after a 12-0 run, the Longhorns called a timeout with 3:40 left in the first. 

After the timeout, the Raiders got the defensive rebound, and Teeden once again found Tinsley for the and-one bucket. The Longhorns scored their first basket of the game with 2:38 left in the quarter on a nice reverse layup. Jamin Andrews got on the board with a nice post-up move to extend the Raiders lead. Lennard went to the free throw line after a Raiders foul and went 1-2. After a Raiders turnover, Lennard returned to the free throw line and went 2-2. Patrick Wright found Tinsley for the and one basket, his second of the quarter. Lennard responded with a 3-pointer. After a Raiders missed 3, Lennard made another 3 to make the Raiders lead single digits. Seth Hogan made it a double-digit lead once again with a 3-pointer of his own. Lennard got to the free throw line with 23 seconds left in the first and went 2-2 from the line. Hogan ended the first for the Raiders with a nice layup. At the end of the first, the Raiders were up 25-13.

Lennard started the second quarter off strong with a nice mid-range shot. Young got the hit a layup in transition. Lennard turned it over with an offensive foul, which gave the Raiders the ball. Teeden alley-ooped it to Tinsley for the dunk and the crowd went wild! Teeden then took a charge, which resulted in another Longhorns turnover. Tinsley went to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 1-2. Hamilton got the offensive rebound on the second free throw miss and got the putback layup. The Longhorns got an and-one and converted the layup. Hamilton went to the free throw line after getting fouled in the paint but went 0-2 from the line. Lennard turned it over once again after stepping out of bounds with the ball. The Raiders turned it back over after dropping the pass. It was the third turnover possession in a row as the Longhorns traveled. Teeden found Seth Hogan for the 3 and the Longhorns were forced to call a timeout as the Raiders were up 35-18 with 4:55 left in the half. 

The timeout worked as Lennard hit a 3-pointer. The Raiders turned it over but Teeden stole it right back and passed it to Tinsley who found Hamilton for the layup in transition. The Longhorns were fouled and went 1-2 from the free-throw line. Teeden was fouled and was rewarded free throws as the Longhorns had reached their limit. Teeden went 2-2 from the line. Ben Martin got the rebound after the Lennard miss and pushed it upcourt to Teeden, who once again went to the free-throw line going 1-2. Lennard went to the free throw line after the Raiders foul and went 1-2. Raiders called a timeout with 3:05 left in the half, up 40-24. The Raiders turned it over, but Hogan stole it and Gavin Tinsley finished it with a dunk. The Raiders then went on a 6-0 run after with baskets by Jamin Andrews, Patrick Wright, and Jalen Marshall. Lennard was forced to call a timeout as the Raiders extended their lead to 49-24. After the timeout, Lennard turned it over. Patrick Wright then hit a wide-open 3-pointer for the Raiders. Lennard airballed a 3-pointer, and Andrews went to the free throw line for the Raiders, going 1-2. At halftime, the Raiders were up 53-24.

The second half started sloppy, as both offenses missed or turned it over on their first three possessions. Lennard got to the free throw line and went 1-2. Marshall got to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 1-2 from the line. Teeden got the defensive rebound for the Raiders and found Tinsley wide open for the fast-break dunk. Then Teeden stole it, got a fastbreak and got the layup. Lennard responded nicely with a 3-pointer to stop the Raiders scoring run. Tinsley then found Hamilton in the paint for a reverse layup. After a Lennard turnover, Teeden found Tinsley again for the Raiders basket. After a Lennard floater, Young hit a 3-pointer for the Raiders. After another turnover by Lennard, Tinsley scored on the fast break. Lennard got a layup on their own but then the Raiders Patrick Wright made a 3 at the top of the key. A timeout was called with 3:03 left in the third with the Raiders up 70-32. Lennard got a layup after the timeout and then made a nice mid-range pull-up. Lennard got to the free throw line on their next possession and went 2-2. At the end of the third quarter, the Raiders were up 72-39.

With such a big lead, the clock in the 4th quarter was continuous. The Raiders turned it over on their first possession, and Lennard scored quickly with a baseline 3-pointer. Tinsley found Young in the paint for the Raiders basket. Tinsley stole it and found Andrews wide open in the paint for the Raiders. Lennard turned it over by trying to force the pass in the paint. The Raiders missed the transition basket, but it was followed up with the Longhorns drawing the foul. With 5 minutes left in the game, the Raiders starters were pulled. Simeon Hogan checked in and made an instant impact for the Raiders with a nice block, protecting the paint. Angel Ortiz then found Hogan for the easy bucket in the paint. Longhorns responded with a layup in transition on the following possession. Hogan had the crowd erupt as he got a smooth and one layup. Lennard then responded with a nice 3-pointer. Ortiz responded with a nice floater for the Raiders on what looked like a Longhorns foul. Longhorns quickly got on offense and were rewarded with a layup. Davion Rodriguez got his own offensive rebound and got the putback for the basket. The final was 84-51, with the Raiders winning and moving to 11-5.
