Raider’s basketball suffers first loss of the season

The Raiders won the tip-off and immediately attacked the paint as Gavin Tinsley was fouled, but he missed both free throws. Sumner turned it over on their first offensive possession. The Raiders scored first, attacking the paint, but Sumner responded instantly with a 3-pointer. Sumner then got to the free throw line and went 1-2 from the line. Sumner hit another 3 which had them on a 7-0 run, but Logan Teeden got to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 1-2 from the line. The Raiders struggled to get back on defense and Sumner got a layup. Teeden got the steal for the Raiders and alley-ooped it to Tinsley for the Raiders bucket. 

The Raiders got in transition again, but Tinsley rebounded and got the put back for the Raiders. Sumner got to the free throw line and went 1-2 from the line. Akeim Young then responded with a nice mid-range bucket. Sumner then scored back-to-back layups, followed by another alley-oop from Teeden to Tinsley. A timeout was called with 3:48 left in the quarter, with Sumner up 15-11. 

Tinsley got another bucket after the timeout making it a 2-point game, but Sumner responded with a 3-pointer. After a Raiders miss, Sumner got to the free throw line again and went 1-2 from the line. The Raiders turned it over and Sumner got a layup in transition. Teeden got to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 2-2 from the line. Jamin Andrews had a nice block for the Raiders, but Sumner kept possession. Sumner missed and the Raiders responded with a layup in transition. Sumner scored a layup to end the first with the score 25-17 Sumner. 

The second quarter started with Sumner getting the ball first and the Raiders stole the ball. The Raiders followed up with a turnover. Sumner missed the layup but got the basket after an offensive rebound. After another Raiders turnover, Sumner got back to the free throw line and went 0-2 from the line. Laurice Hamilton got the first basket of the quarter for the Raiders on a nice post-up. After a Sumner 3 was blocked, Tinsley got to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 2-2. Hamilton had a nice block for the Raiders but didn’t capitalize on the play. 

Teeden found Tinsley again for the alley-oop dunk. Sumner got to the free throw line and went 1-2 from the line. Sumner continued to attack the paint and got to the free throw line once again, this time going 2-2 from the line. Sumner was on a 6-0 run at this point after hitting a 3 from the top of the key. Sumner hit a mid-range shot and extended their lead to 15, the biggest lead of the game to this point. The Raiders turned it over and Sumner got to the free-throw line and went 2-2. Sumner got another transition basket and then stole back-to-back inbound passes. Sumner turned it over after a charge was called. Sumner responded with a nice layup, and at the end of the half, the score was 50-25 Sumner. 

After being outscored 25-8 in the second quarter, the Raiders needed a strong second half to try and come back. Sumner scored first after a putback. Tinsley scored first for the Raiders on the inbound. Andrews then took it to the basket for the Raiders, followed by a steal by Teeden. After another Sumner turnover, Andrews got to the free throw line for the Raiders and went 1-2 from the line. Teeden stole the ball, and Ben Martin made the transition lay for the Raiders. Sumner hit a baseline 3 and a timeout was called with 4:15 left in the third with Sumner up 55-36. 

Jalen Marshall got the basket for the Raiders after the timeout, but Sumner got to the free-throw line, going 2-2. Both teams turned it over with just under 3 minutes left in the quarter. Sumner then turned it over again, which caused Jalen Marshall to get to the free-throw line after he got fouled in transition. Marshall went 2-2 from the line. After both teams missed, Sumner got a good look in the paint. Tinsley responded with a nice layup through traffic. At the end of the third, it was 61-42 Sumner. 

The 4th started with the Raiders scoring in transition. Andrews then scored for the Raiders off an inbound pass. Teeden drew a charge on the next play, but the Raiders could not score. Akeim Young hit a mid-range for the Raiders, and a timeout was called. Teeden stole it and got the layup, but Sumner got an easy basket in transition. Teeden responded with another layup. 

Sumner was killing the clock by holding the ball and slowing down the pace. Sumner got to the free throw line with 2:34 left in the game, up 67-54. After both free throws went in, Andrews got a transition layup for the Raiders. Young got the steal and found Teeden for the layup. A timeout was called with under a minute left. Sumner went 1-2 from the free throw line, and Teeden hit a 3. A timeout was called with 32.5 seconds left in the game. The Raiders intentionally fouled, and Sumner went 2-2 for the line. Sumner then stole the ball and got a transition lay. The final was 74-63 Sumner.
