From Tuesday, Oct. 27, to Friday, Nov. 13, the United Food Bank of Plant City will start its annual Fall Food Drive in Area 6 Hillsborough County schools.
The event will help to feed families within the community and assist the food bank’s Children’s Nutrition Outreach Program, which ensures that children in the community will be fed when school is closed for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This is accomplished by providing meals to over 5,000 children each year.
Non-perishable food items can be dropped off to any of the Area 6 schools. This includes Plant City High School, which has already started to donate food to the drive. PCHS students may give food donations to their second period classrooms.
Even the smallest donations can make a difference. In last year’s food drive, 36,665 pounds of food were collected by the food bank, which helped to provide 54,600 meals to students in the community.
“It’s always wonderful to see such a huge support from the Plant City community for our annual fall food drive within the schools,” Christine Miller, executive director of the food bank, said.
