Sheriff Chad Chronister Reminds Sexual Offenders of Halloween Rules

Ahead of Halloween and trick-or-treating, Sheriff Chad Chronister and deputies will be conducting compliance checks today at the homes of registered sexual offenders, police said.

In coordination with the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC), HCSO deputies will remind registered sexual offenders on probation that they cannot participate in Halloween activities. They are prohibited from handing out candy, displaying Halloween decorations and leaving on their porch lights. A breach of any of these rules will result in an automatic violation and can lead to an arrest.

“Compliance checks on registered sex offenders are not just a routine procedure; they are a critical measure in keeping our kids safe and safeguarding our neighborhoods,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are taking proactive steps to create a secure environment for all families during trick-or-treating. Vigilance and cooperation from everyone in the community are vital to make sure this Halloween is a joyful and safe experience for everyone.”

Parents are also encouraged to visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Sexual Offender and Predator database before their children go trick-or-treating Saturday. Upon entering your home address, the database provides the addresses of registered sexual offenders and predators near your neighborhood. FDLE’s database can be accessed here.
