Plant City fighters win at Battle of Atlanta
Local karate practicioners “Rhino” Mike Thomas and Abijah “Atomic Bomb” Johnson performed well at the 2018 Battle of Atlanta event, held June 14-16 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thomas, a third-degree brown belt, won first place in his weight class in the Ring Combat Fighting Arts International kickboxing men’s brown/black belt division and in points sparring. Johnson, a purple belt competing at the men’s intermediate level, finished second in points sparring and third in kata. Both men represented the Rogers Nisei Karate Federation and will compete in the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships at Walt Disney World from July 5-7.

Chris Welbon Karate Clubs is hosting several fun-filled summer camps in upcoming weeks.
First up is the Wild Water Games camp, which includes karate training, squirt gun fights, a trip to Adventure Island and more between July 9 and 13. Next is the Ninja Warrior camp, where campers can complete obstacle courses, make origami ninja stars, visit the 2Infinity trampoline center in Lakeland and more between July 30 and Aug. 3.
The camps are for kids age 4-13 and registration fees cover all activities, food and t-shirts. Full-day sessions are available for $250 per week per child and half-day sessions for $150 per week per child, and discounts are available for siblings and those signing up for multiple camps. Full days run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and half days from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
