Sinkhole reopens in Seffner

On Wednesday, Aug. 19, at about 9 a.m., a woman who lives off of Faithway Drive in Seffner was walking her dog when she heard a large boom.

The sinkhole located at 240 Faithway Drive had re-opened.

The sinkhole, which is approximately 17 feet wide and 20 feet deep, is the same sinkhole that swallowed Seffner resident Jeffrey Bush in 2013.

The woman called 911, who reported to the scene.

Michelle Van Dyke, of Hillsborough County communications, said that no one was harmed during this sinkhole incident. Currently, there is no danger to nearby homes.

Van Dyke said that the sinkhole is now property of the Parks and Recreation department.

“It’s not uncommon for sinkholes to settle,” Van Dyke said.

Adamann & Associates is currently working on a plan of action to cover the sinkhole, although Van Dyke said that it most likely will not be covered today.

Lou Jones, a Seffner resident who has lived in the area for 33 years, said that he has no concerns regarding the re-opening of the sinkhole, and that he is pleased with the way the county is handling the incident.
