The FRANkenstein 5K and WOD-O-Ween crossfit workout kicked off bright and early Saturday, Oct. 31.
The fundraiser began 9 a.m. with a small, but energetic flash mob. This sassy rabble included dancers from Lori Matta’s studio, Dance Carousel. Following the flash mob, all participants of the 5K were ordered to line up at the starting point and prepare for the run.
Most contestants were able to finish with an impressive record, ranging between 15 to 20 minutes.
But the event wasn’t just for those with a crossfit interest. Focus 4 Beauty also attended to give free face paintings, and those attending were encouraged to dress in costumes to celebrate the Halloween spirit.
Following the 5K was the 1-mile Monster Dash, then the WOD-O-Ween crossfit workout. The workout was free to attend and fun for all who tried it out. Prizes were awarded after the event was over and ranged from a free 30-minute massage to a one-month free membership for two at Plant City CrossFit.
Proceeds from the 5K went to two local causes: Apache Way Horse Rescue and a local Plant City mom, Jean Coslin, who died from stage four lung cancer this fall.
Matta, is the owner of Apache Way Horse Rescue. The rescue is a forever home for every animal she takes in. Matta has had a few recent surgeries to fix a ruptured spleen. She was also in a car accident, which left her with a broken pelvis.
Croslin was a member of Plant City Crossfit. She was known by her bright pink truck, which had a “sittin’ pretty” sticker on the windshield. The hard worker was also known to be the type to give the shirt off of her back.
Witnessing the amount of good the community has done for these two marvelous ladies was incredible. Although I am unsure as to how much was raised for both causes, a big thank goes out to those who attended the FRANkenstein 5K and donated. The fundraiser couldn’t have been held for more heartfelt causes.
