A man was taken to an area hospital after attempting to flee an officer on Saturday, Nov. 5.
A suspected thief was injured Saturday, Nov. 5, during an altercation with a Plant City police officer at the 100 block of Drane Street.
The officer, who has not been named, responded to a report of a theft in progress and made contact with the suspect at his vehicle. The suspect unsuccessfully attempted to flee the scene and, during the ensuing confrontation, the officer fired his gun in self defense. Details of the confrontation were not listed in a news release, but one area witness said that three shots were fired.
Plant City Police Department did not say whether the suspect had pulled a firearm or other weapon on the officer, but that the suspect was injured and taken to an area hospital. The officer did not suffer any injuries. The department said that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office have been notified and will conduct an investigation.
