Officers are attempting to determine what led to a shooting in a church parking lot last night.
Around 8 p.m. on Jan. 4 Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies were called to Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, 5100 Horton Rd., in reference to a shooting. Deputies said there were two juveniles in the parking lot and one of them had a gunshot wound in their upper body.
The injured teen was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital where he is currently in critical, but stable condition, according to HCSO.
The teens told officers an unknown make and model white van had driven by the church and when it passed them someone began firing shots in their direction for an unknown reason, according to the news release.
Deputies are working now on conducting interviews and verifying the victim’s statements. No suspect description was provided.
