A train hit a broken-down vehicle stuck on tracks
Two individuals are safe after their vehicle was struck by an oncoming train at the intersection of Alexander Street and Sammonds Road, in Plant City, on Friday morning, Jan. 28.
The accident had occurred around 8:15 a.m. and the vehicle caught on fire as a result.
The two occupants in the vehicle escaped before impact and sustained no known injuries, according to Deputy Chief Timothy Mossgrove of Plant City Fire Rescue.
Mossgrove stated, “It is my understanding that apparently the vehicle may have became disabled when it had approached the railroad tracks. That is when it was unable to get out of the way of the oncoming train, and then the train made contact with the front of the vehicle over the railroad crossing.”
The train came to a stop northeast of where the collision occurred, he added.
Although the occupants were able to escape the vehicle safely, they were transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital for further examination.
