The men involved in a shooting Tuesday, Aug. 25, at a Thonotosassa mansion were brothers Scott and Todd Tomlinson, Hillsborough Sheriff’s officials said.
Todd Tomlinson, 53, was killed by deputies after he waved a gun at them, authorities said. As the deputies then went to investigate inside the house, his younger brother, Scott, 51, was found dead near the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputies responded to the home at 11008 Smoken Gun Lane at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday after someone called about a domestic dispute. Todd Tomlinson, of Plant City, had called a family member about the argument and that person called the Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, Todd Tomlinson met them in the gated driveway. He was holding a handgun, officials said.
Deputies told him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Authorities said he raised his gun at deputies and they shot at him. Todd Tomlinson was hit several times and pronounced dead on the scene.
Inside, deputies found Scott Tomlinson’s body. He had multiple gunshot wounds, authorities did not disclose what had transpired between the brothers.
Todd Tomlinson is considered a suspect in his brother’s death.
The men co-owned the nearby business Tomlinson Brothers Plastering Inc., according to records.
Scott Tomlinson owns the 5,000-square-foot home on Smoken Gun Lane. It sits on 3.4 acres surrounded by a fence. An iron gate blocks the driveway, which empties onto Fort King Highway.
The Sheriff’s Office said neither deputy involved in the shooting was injured.
They were identified as Deputy Mark Barnwell, 52, who has been on the force for 29 years, and Deputy Izzy Roquemore, 45, who has 15 years on the job. Neither has been involved in a shooting before, authorities said.
