Johnathan Walker, 25, of Plant City, and Christopher Bowmer, 23, of Lakeland, died in a two-motorcycle crash last Sunday in Polk County.
At 6:35 p.m. Sunday, March, 15, a group of motorcyclists who had been riding together stopped for a break on Bonnie Mine Road, between S.R. 640 and S.R. 60 in Mulberry. Some of the motorcyclists were still riding in the vicinity, including Walker and Bowmer.
Bowmer was traveling southbound on Bonnie Mine Road, when he made a U-turn in front of Walker, who was headed northbound on the same road. While making the U-turn, Bowmer entered the northbound lane and Walker’s path. Walker tried to swerve and avoid a collision, but he did not succeed.
Upon the impact, Bowmer was ejected, landing approximately 80 feet south of the crash site. Walker was also ejected and landed approximately 110 feet southwest from the crash site, having gone through a barbed wire fence and into a field.
Though they had been wearing helmets, both motorcyclists were declared dead at the scene.
