UPDATE: Names of those involved in a shooting death near Plant City released
At about 11:30 p.m. Oct. 29, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Shawn A. Berg of 2005 Cimmaron Run Drive, Valrico.
According to police reports, Berg, 39, said he had shot an intruder to his home after the intruder kicked in the door of Berg’s garage. When deputies arrived they discovered victim John Danco, 36, of 1802 St. Cloud Avenue, Valrico deceased in the garage.
Berg and Danco have had an ongoing dispute over various family issues. Danco is married to Berg’s sister.
Just before the shooting Danco had made a call to Berg, threatening Berg and his family.
Detectives obtained a court authorized search warrant to search Berg’s home. Methamphetamine and a controlled substance were found in the residence. Berg was taken into custody and charged with possession of narcotics.
