Honor students at Plant City High School had the chance to get out of class for an hour and take part in some fun activities for upcoming honor celebrations.

The 157 seniors is the largest honors class in PCHS history. Honor students are students with a 4.0 or higher GPA.

After photos taken on an outline of “2013” and “PC,” the seniors took part in their own “Harlem Shake” video, which will be shown at the honors banquet May 10 at the Trinkle Center on the Hillsborough Community College Plant City campus.

Every student will receive a copy of the video, according to Jennifer Hamilton, the video coordinator and a drama and reading teacher at PCHS. Hamilton’s son, Casey, came up with the Harlem Shake idea.

“The Harlem Shake is really popular right now and we just thought it would be a fun and creative way to memorialize this group of seniors,” Jennifer Hamilton said.

An honors awards banquet April 30 in the PCHS auditorium will honor students before the May 10 banquet. Sherrie Mueller, the honors chair and the college and career counselor at PCHS, said that the school is one of few in Hillsborough County that is able to have a banquet for their honor students.

“Today was just a way to get all of them together and have some fun,” Mueller said.

Each year, every graduating honors class takes part in a unique video.

“Every class is different, so the video is a great way to show the personality of each class,” Mueller said. “The parents are great about helping out with everything, as well.”
