VSI Tampa Bay FC held the third-place Richmond Kickers to a scoreless result Sunday evening in Plant City Stadium.
Back-to-back games on the road tested the Kickers this weekend in Florida. Only 24 hours after the Kickers defeated top-seeded Orlando City 2-0 in the Citrus Bowl, they took on VSI in Plant City.
VSI developed many goal scoring opportunities in the first half, building the ball up patiently through the midfield and were able to spring balls to the flanks, feeding Alex Freitas and Richard Dixon. Sal Bundu had several attempts, just missing the back of the net, but Richmond goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra delivered a shutout performance, along with VSI keeper Alex Horwath.
The Kickers (8-0-6) remain undefeated and move on to face Dayton at Beavercreek High School while VSI Tampa Bay FC (7-6-3) break for the July 4th holiday and return to action in Plant City Stadium on July 13 to host the Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m.
