VSI looks for revenge against Portland

VSI Tampa Bay FC will be looking for redemption Saturday, as they host an out-of-league match against the Portland Timbers (MLS) reserves.

The match will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Plant City Stadium, 1900 South Park Road.

The Timbers beat VSI 2-1 April 7 at JELD-WEN Field in Portland. It was VSI’s third match of the season in the inaugural season competing in USL PRO, the third tier of United States professional soccer below the North American Soccer League and Major League Soccer, the top league in the nation.

“I know it’s going to be rough, but if we go in with confidence and play our game, we can beat anyone,” said midfielder JT Noone about the rematch.

VSI is being led by interim head coach Joel Harrison after previous coach Matt Weston left the team before the start of VSI’s participation in the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Harrison led VSI to a 1-0 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads May 26 at Plant City Stadium in his first USL PRO match as head coach.

Tickets to VSI Tampa Bay FC’s home matches are available online at www.vsi-fc.com or at the stadium box office on game days. General admission to all of VSI’s USL PRO matches is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12-years-old. Parking is $5 and concessions are provided by Alessi Bakeries.
