VSI routs Antigua 8-0, prepares for Sunday’s home match

VSI Tampa Bay FC’s Mauricio Salles delivered five goals in the first 30 minutes Friday, helping VSI topple Antigua 8-0 in USL PRO action at Plant City Stadium.

“It was a great match. The last two weeks I had a concussion and I was working hard to get back on the field,” Salles said. “Finally, I got back on the field and did a great job and it feels great. But more importantly, we got the win. It’s about the team.”

“We talked about coming out and putting together 90 minutes and being disciplined, overall we did that,” said interim head coach Joel Harrison. “We maintained focus.”

Sebastien Thuriere secured VSI’s seventh goal in the 72nd minute of play and Karamba Janneh rounded out Tampa’s scoring spree with the eighth and final goal of the match.

“Obviously Mauricio Salles had a great night but all over the field I thought everyone did their job,” Harrison said. “That is what will make us continue to be successful.”

VSI Tampa Bay FC now faces the Phoenix FC Wolves on Sunday at 7p.m. at Plant City Stadium.

Tickets to the PRO games are $10 for general admission adults and $5 for children under 12 years old.
