Cruising through the heat

June’s Strawberry Classic Cruise-In featured cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s and offered delectable refreshments as a reprieve from the summer heat.

Attendees enjoyed food from classic diner themed cars and sweets from a bake sale booth ran by Katie Martino, who is raising awareness and money for her kidney transplant fund. Vendors along Palmer Street also sold items like unique jewelry, home goods and art.

The classic cars had a run for their money this month with the appearance of unique crowd favorites like Lightning McQueen from Disney’s “Cars.”

Shakes and selfies

Wayback Burgers restaurants across the nation — including Plant City’s location — are helping people stay cool on the first day of summer.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. today, anyone who visits Wayback Burgers will get a free 12-ounce Black & White milkshake with or without a food purchase, while supplies last. The event also promotes National Selfie Day, so local eaters are encouraged to share their “shake selfies” on social media with the #FreeShakeDay hashtag.

Wayback Burgers owners celebrate Free Shake Day on the first day of summer each year and the chain expects the event to give restaurants a 20-25% boost in sales.
