The City of Plant City is encouraging residents to recycle used cooking and motor oil from the holiday season instead of pouring it down a drain.
Residents can bring used cooking oil to the Public Used Oil Center for recycling, located at 1500 W. Victoria St. in Plant City.
According to Sharon Spires, industrial pretreatment coordinator for the City of Plant City, pouring grease and cooking oil down the drains can cause costly cleaning and maintenance to residents. Additionally, the substances poured down the drains collect in the City's sanitary sewer lines, which can cause blockages and potentially overflow the sanitary sewer.
Recycling at the Public Used Oil Center is free.
